Operating a fiber optic system with maximum efficiency requires knowing what type of fiber is being used and why. Understanding the characteristics of different fiber types will help you choose the optimal application and achieve the best performance.
We’re proud to say that St. Louis’s innovative co-working space and technology incubator, T-REX, will stay connected in its new home with dark fiber cables from Arch Fiber Networks. T-REX moved into the Lammert Building on Washington Avenue early in 2014.
In fiber optic communications, “dark fiber” or unlit fiber (sometimes spelled fibre) is the name given to fiber optic cables not in service by a carrier or provider. The cables are not yet connected to any optical device on either end of the fiber run. The fiber has been installed with the purpose of being used at some point in the future.
